Care Instructions
After the replacement of a windshield there are proper care instructions for the vehicle in order to ensure that the installation takes full effect:
- Leave a window down a half inch for 24 hours. This measure is to ensure that the glue that holds the windshield in place has a chance to properly set. When a door is closed on a vehicle, it creates a momentary increase in pressure inside the cab. That pressure tries to find a way to escape and leaving the window down a half inch allows for an avenue for that air to escape. If a window is not left down, then the air pressure escapes through the fresh glue and there is an increased chance of leakage.
- Leave the tape on for 24 hours. Most often with windshield installation we put specialized auto tape around the edges of the window. The tape serves two purposes: 1) it helps to hold the window in place until the adhesive takes full effect and 2) it helps to protect the glue from moisture. The tape should come off with no trouble. Very seldom there will be minor tape residue left behind. If this is the case, then try WD40 with a dry rag or feel free to bring it back to us and we will remove the residue ourselves.
- No car washes for 48 hours. The soap in car washes reacts poorly with the adhesive used in window replacement. This poor reaction with the soap increases the chance that the seal around the window will become contaminated and develop rust. After 48 hours, the adhesive will have dried and taken full effect.
- Double all of these time frames in the winter time. The cold weather slows the drying process of the adhesive.
